WAI‘ANAE COAST NEIGHBORHOOD BOARD NO. 24     HOUSING / HOMELESSNESS COMMITTEE MEETING AGENDA Sunday, June 21, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. In-Person Physical Location: Pōkaʻī Bay Beach Park (Near Womenʻs Restroom) 960 Bayview Street #85, Waiʻanae, HI 96792 Rules of Speaking: Anyone wishing to speak is asked to a) in attendance at physical location please raise your hand to be recognized by the chair; When recognized by the Chair, state your name for the record and then address comments to the Chair. Speakers are encouraged to keep their comments under two (2) minutes, and those giving reports are urged to keep their reports to three (3) or five (5) minutes or less, including Q&A, and depending on your Item section allotment. Please silence all electronic devices in physical location if you need to answer a call please step outside. Working Agreements: Please be respectful while others are speaking, let’s agree to disagree and please refrain from making any comments and gestures towards fellow community members on any topic. While addressing concern please stay within the two (2) minutes or yield the remaining of your time if less and try to stay on topic one concern at a time. No more than two concerns shall be heard in one single meeting any more than the allotted amount please feel free to fill out our concern sheets in writing or speak to me after our meeting is adjourned. Note: This committee may not act on any agenda item, unless voted and added to General Board Meeting. We are here to discuss our concerns as a community and address and find solutions together. If a vote is needed after proper protocols, it may be added to our General Board Meeting for discussion and voting. Chair: Nani Peterson | Vice Chair: Dana Newman potluck if can 1. Call to Order & Introductions Chair calls meeting to order, notes time Self-introductions of subcommittee members and guests. 3. Approval of Minutes (if applicable) Review and approve previous subcommittee meeting minutes. 4. Cultural Mana‘o / Community Grounding Reflection on Waiʻanae’s history of resilience and mālama ʻāina. Share ʻike kupuna on kuleana to kūpuna, keiki, and houseless ʻohana. 5. Presentation: None 6. Public Input Space for community members to share mana‘o (limit 2 minutes per speaker). 7. Order of Business 7.1. Updates: Reports from outreach groups, service providers, and community advocates. 7.2. Needs Assessment: Identify urgent houseless needs (health, food, sanitation, cultural support). 7.3. Cultural Solutions: Discuss how ʻike Hawaiʻi-such as mālama ʻāina, laulima, and hoʻokipa-can guide outreach. 7.4. Partnerships: Planning resource pop-ups (food distribution, healthcare screenings, cultural healing spaces). 7.5. Recommendations: Drafting actions for full Neighborhood Board consideration. 8. Action Items / Recommendations Confirm tasks and kuleana for subcommittee members. 9. Identify items to present to full Neighborhood Board. 10. Community announcements 11. Next Meeting Date / Agenda Items Confirm next meeting date, time, and place. Suggest future agenda topics. 12. If a request is received with fewer than three (3) business days remaining before the meeting, we will try to obtain the auxiliary aid/service or accommodation, but it may not be possible to fulfill requests received after this date.       HOUSING / HOMELESSNESS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Sunday, May 24, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. In-Person Physical Location: Pōkaʻī Bay Beach Park (Near Womenʻs Restroom) 960 Bayview Street #85, Waiʻanae, HI 96792 Date: May 24, 2026 Time: Meeting called to order at 5:10 PM Location: Pōkaʻi Bay Opening Pule “E Hō Mai” Attendance: 3 Board members(Nani, Dana, Kim), 7 community members **Family Property Presentation -Family shared hopes and dreams regarding the property. -Shared that this has been a 5-year-long journey. -Proposed structure: 3-bedroom single-story home. -Families involved: Chang, Yuen, and Shigematsu ʻohana. -Families are from the Westside community. -Property zoning identified as R-10 Residential District. -Exhibits were presented for review. **Presentation by -Family Spokesperson Fran presented data regarding a 60-foot setback. -Continued sharing facts from the site plan and permitting process. ****Committee noted no objections for the family to present next month before the full Neighborhood Board committee and community. ***Community Concerns & Updates -Community members expressed respect and support for RYSE, noting a “10 out of 10” rating. -Discussion regarding the need for: **Women’s transitional housing for women reentering society. **Kūpuna housing integrated with youth housing opportunities. ***RYSE Update (Carla) -RYSE program currently full with 9 participants. -75 youth have utilized drop-in center services. -Statistics shared regarding sheltered and unsheltered populations. Announcement: -On May 28, Ruby Tuesday will donate 200 lbs of food for Waiʻanae. **Additional Announcements No community needs were identified at this meeting. **Upcoming Meetings & Community Events -Kūpuna Council Meetings: June 11 June 25 -Upcoming Nioiʻula Heiau cleanup announced. ***Closing Manaʻo “It pays to listen.” Meeting adjourned at 6:45 PM.
