What is AQI?

The Air Quality Index is a 0–500 scale measuring air pollution. It tracks ozone, particle pollution (PM2.5/PM10), carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide. Lower is better.

Vog in Hawaii

The most common concern here is vog, volcanic smog from Kīlauea containing PM2.5 and sulfur dioxide. Trade wind disruptions can trap pollutants near the surface, especially on leeward sides.
